The river Spey is the 2nd largest river in Scotland and is 158 km long and originates in the Grampian mountains to end in the north Sea close to Lossiemouth.
The Speyside, named after the river Spey, is famous for the big number of Whisky distilleries. Here you can find more than half of the whisky distilleries in Scotland. Big names such as Glenfiddich, Strathisla, Glen Grant and Glenlivet appear here and some of the finest Scottish malts are produces in the Speyside. Also well known is the Malt Whiksy Trail, a beautiful tour through the wonderful nature passing these famous distilleries.
Beautiful castles like Balvenie castle and the pearl of the north "Ballindaloch castle", lovely towns like Elgin and Grantown on Spey and the wonderful Glenlivet Estate make the Speyside a wonderful area to visit.

The Glenlivet Distillery in the heart of the Glenlivet Estate. The Glenlivet distillery can be found in the beautiful and remote Glen of the river Livet which flows in the river Spey. The Glenlivet distillery is owned by Chivas Brothers.

The Stills at the Glenfiddich Distillery. They do a very nice tour in several languages but it can be busy from time to time. Glenfiddich are one of the few distilleries that do their own bottling.
