The Silver Sands of Morar are probably the most famous place in Morar but the road travelling to Morar is famous for itself as well. It is the Road to the Isles taking the traveller from Fort William to Mallaig where the ferry takes you to Skye or one of the little islands such as Rum, Muck, Eigg or Canna. Mallaig is a busy fishing port which lies at the end of the road to the isles. Mallaig can also be reached by the famous Jacobite steamtrain which played a part in the first Harry Potter movie.
One mile from Morar on the old road towards Arisaig is Camusdarach beach. This was one of the locations for the Scottish movie Local Hero. Because of the movie, the beach is also known as Ben's beach and one of the houses close to the beach was temporarly rebuild as a church. The other part of the movie was shot in Pennan in the north east. As in the movie, Camusdarach beach is famous for its stunning sunsets.
Loch Morar is worth a visit as well, it is the deepest fresh water loch in europe, 310 meters, and has its own monster called Morag!

Another wonderful sunset at Camusdarach beach
These pictures were made on saturday 14th of may and months later (september) we found out that Doug Hill from Scotland The Movie was at exactly the same moment at Camusdarach beach as we were. Small world isnt it :-)
The views towards Skye and Mull from Morar are stunning. And with such sunsets even more.
One of the little island in Loch Morar. The trees are all very small for their age, and look a bit like the trees on the island in Loch Maree.
Loch Morar with its own monster Morag. The loch is 310 meters deep!
The Silver Sands of Morar. A tropical delight in the West of Scotland.

Beautiful or not, Kinloch Castle is something special, build on a remote island like Rum
Rum harbour, only busy when the ferry arrives or departs. From there it is a 20 minute walk to the Castle
